Why Tropical Surface Care Is Different in FNQ

Built for Cairns Salt, Tropical Sun & Marina Environments

Southern waxes and harsh acid washes fail fast in Far North Queensland. Our methods protect both your vessel and the Great Barrier Reef waterways.

Tropical UV, Salt & Humidity Defence

“First is neglect — because in Cairns, the salt, the tropical sun, and the humidity all work together as one big thing to break down coatings and breed mould.”

Once gelcoat pores open up in the Cairns heat, chalky oxidation and black mould take hold rapidly. We machine-correct the oxidised layer and seal the pores with covalent silicate or ceramic protection so salt and mould cannot grip the surface.

— Eagle Eye Detailing, Cairns Marine Surface Specialists
100% Reef-Safe Marina Washdowns

“At the marina, rinse water goes straight into the sea, so we only use reef-safe, non-toxic products that don’t harm the sea.”

Working over the water at Half Moon Bay, Marlin Marina, and Bluewater Marina requires strict environmental responsibility. We wash by hand with biodegradable, marine-safe cleaners and never blast delicate teak, clears, stitching, or ropes with high-pressure washers.

How We Restore & Protect

Our 6-Stage Surface Restoration Process

No shortcuts and no silicone fillers that wash off in two weeks. Every restoration follows a disciplined 6-stage workflow.

Stage 1

Inspect & 50/50 Test Patch

We inspect your gelcoat or paint thickness, check for chalking, rust bleed, or clear-coat failure, and dial in the exact pad-and-compound combination with a test patch so you know the realistic result upfront.

Stage 2

Reef-Safe Decontamination

Thorough hand wash using biodegradable, reef-safe cleaners to strip salt crust, diesel soot, bird lime, tea-staining, and mould spores without harsh pressure-washing.

Stage 3

Oxidation & Scratch Removal

Heavy rotary compounding (and controlled micro-wet-sanding where required on heavily chalked fibreglass) removes dead, oxidised gelcoat and deep swirl marks to expose fresh colour underneath.

Stage 4

Machine Polish & Optical Refinement

Finishing polishes refine the surface to remove compounding haze and hologramming, bringing up maximum gloss depth and closing the microscopic pores of the gelcoat or clear coat.

Stage 5

Covalent GLARE Glassplexin or Ceramic Bond

We lock in the finish with GLARE Professional Polish (with Glassplexin covalent silicate technology) or a dedicated marine ceramic coating that chemically bonds to the surface instead of sitting on top like wax.

Stage 6

Final Handover & Maintenance Plan

We walk you through the finished vessel or vehicle, set up a simple reef-safe washdown schedule or annual coating top-up plan, and show you how to keep your finish gleaming year-round.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about how we quote, wash, polish, and protect your vessel, aircraft, or vehicle in Cairns.

Do you come to my marina berth, hangar, or home?

Yes. We are fully mobile across Cairns and Far North Queensland — including Half Moon Bay Marina (Yorkeys Knob), Cairns Marlin Marina, Bluewater Marina, Trinity Inlet, Cairns General Aviation Airport (Hangar 7), and private driveways or sheds. Outside Cairns metro incurs only a flat $50 call-out fee.

Why don’t you use high-pressure washers on boats?

High-pressure water strips teak oils, damages clear plastics, frays mooring lines and canvas stitching, and forces water past window and hatch seals. We wash by hand with proper marine brushes, mitts, and reef-safe biodegradable cleaners.

What is the difference between polishing and GLARE Glassplexin / ceramic protection?

Machine polishing removes the dead, chalky oxidised gelcoat or swirl marks to restore deep gloss. Protective coating (GLARE Glassplexin covalent silicate or marine ceramic coating) goes on afterwards to seal the open pores so UV and salt cannot quickly re-oxidise the surface.

How accurate is the online quote calculator?

The calculator gives an immediate ballpark range based on vessel length (or vehicle size), hull style, and condition using our standard hourly rates ($90/hr wash, $120/hr cut & polish, $160/hr full correction + GLARE Glassplexin). Send your estimate via SMS or email and we will confirm the exact price after seeing your boat or photos.
